New York Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed Maureen Scanlan, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive, Montefiore Einstein, to the newly created Advisory Council for Safe Nurse Staffing.
Just one of three nurse leaders appointed by the Governor in the entire state, Scanlan will provide expertise in nursing practice, quality of nursing care and inpatient care standards by evaluating the improvement or maintenance of staffing levels, patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, patient quality and workplace safety, and provide recommendations to the New York State Assembly.
In her letter announcing the appointment, Governor Hochul wrote, “I am gratified you have accepted this appointment and I am confident you will serve the people of New York State with dedication and distinction.”
This important appointment means Scanlan will influence and shape nurse staffing, staffing standards and quality of patient care in the State of New York now and into the future.
Scanlan is a highly regarded clinician, role model for nurses and trustworthy partner of the medical staff, with a steadfast focus on delivering quality patient care. She has held increasingly senior roles in her three decades at Montefiore Einstein, where she began as a staff nurse in the Oncology and Emergency Departments before easily transitioning into progressive nurse leadership positions, including Assistant Director of Nursing, Administrative Nurse Manager, and Director of Nursing Informatics and Professional Practice, prior to her appointment as Vice President of Nursing in 2011. Scanlan assumed the Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive position, overseeing all aspects of the professional practice of nursing, in March 2022.
